Answer

NOTE: Reporter, version 9.3.x, now supports unicoded usernames, and groupnames, found using the LDAP protocol.  See KB4613 for more details.

Reporter does not fully support UTF-8 encoding, including Usernames or groupnames.

Some websites will be decoded from their origonal languages, but not encoded back, as per the example below.

Example one:

  • Your clients Browser visits this site.

  • With this coresponding entry in the acess log:
2011-02-07 07:06:01 378 10.105.0.158 - - - PROXIED "Reference" http://zh-yue.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E5%8A%89%E5%BE%B7%E8%8F%AF  200 TCP_CLIENT_REFRESH GET text/javascript;%20charset=utf-8 http zh-yue.wikipedia.org 80 /w/index.php ?title=Special:BannerListLoader&cache=/cn.js&language=zh-yue&project=wikipedia&country=MY php "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.2.13) Gecko/20101203 Firefox/3.6.13 (.NET CLR 3.5.30729)" 10.105.13.90 615 641 -

  • The above  will result in reports showing this URL.

http%3A%2F%2Fzh-yue.wikipedia.org%2Fwiki%2F%E5%8A%89%E5%BE%B7%E8%8F%AF%20

Example two.

  • Or your clients Browser will go to

http://zh-yue.wikipedia.org/wiki/華人

  • With this coresponding entry in the acess log:
2011-02-07 07:07:50 2796 10.105.0.158 - - - PROXIED "Reference" -  200 TCP_NC_MISS GET text/html;%20charset=UTF-8 http zh-yue.wikipedia.org 80 /wiki/%E8%8F%AF%E4%BA%BA - - "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.2.13) Gecko/20101203 Firefox/3.6.13 (.NET CLR 3.5.30729)" 10.105.13.90 7424 484
  •  The above interaction will result in this URL in the reports.

http%3A%2F%2Fzh-yue.wikipedia.org%2Fwiki%2F%E8%8F%AF%E4%BA%BA

Result for both URLS:

Reporter does not translate the URLS back to the origonal language.  Being able to do this, is being considered for future versions of this Reporter.

New in Version 9.3.X:  Reporter, version 9.3.x, now supports unicoded usernames, and groupnames, found using the LDAP protocol. It, however, does not print them to PDF reports.  See KB4613 for more details.  Punycode is also supported in 9.3.x

For details on how to setup the LDAP protcol for Reporter, see KB3353
