Answer

Basically, SSL is to HTTPS what the delivery truck is to the package

 

SSL (Secure Socket Layer) is a method to transport information. It can transport all kinds of protocols and applications. VPNs can run ver SSL, custom applications can use SSL to securely transfer data from one point to another.

HTTPS simply means regular HTTP transported inside an SSL tunnel
