Asynchronous Adaptive Refresh (AAR) allows the ProxySG to keep cached objects as fresh as possible, thus reducing response times. The AAR algorithm allows HTTP proxy to manage cached objects based on their rate of change and popularity: an object that changes frequently and/or is requested frequently will be more eligible for asynchronous refresh compared to an object with a lower rate of change and/or popularity.

AAR produces estimated expiry times for type M objects (objects that contain the Last Modified HTTP Header) based on observations of actual changes - that is, the cache does not solely rely on what the origin server may have indicated with respect to last modified time.
