Reporter will not start, after an upgrade

Solutions ID:    KB3345
Version:    2.0
Status:    Published
Published date:    08/31/2009
Updated:    12/01/2009

Problem Description

Looking at the Reporter startup files, we see a message that complains there is no ADMIN account configured.

The Reporter service fails to start.

While troubleshooting this call, we noticed this error in the startup files.

The  three reporter startup files are:

bcreporter.out ---------- Shows general information for the startup and running of the

bctasklist.out ---------- Shows tasks to be completed- is often empty.

bcrservice.out --------- Shows the startup of the Services.

Error in the  bcreporter.out file:

2009-08-28 11:36:27 (4a97f97b) ALW.CRIT.START
Found no local user with administrator privileges -- Reporter cannot continue initialization
2009-08-28 11:36:27 (4a97f97b) ALW.ERRO.START
   'ValidateSecondarySettings' failed
2009-08-28 11:36:27 (4a97f97b) ALW.WARN.SCHED
   'sm_bClassInitDone' is already false
2009-08-28 11:36:30 (4a97f97e) ALW.ERRO.UNDEF

Exiting process -- exit code: 5 (src/sg_main.cpp:2398:main)

NOTE: This is NOT referring to  the local admin account on Windows, or the root user on LINUX, but rather the admin account in Reporter.

Root cause:
The admin account- essential for all reporter installations- was missing.

FIX:  Delete the isready.txt file and run the bcrstartup ( exe) again by typing "bcrstartup --prompt".  This will re-create the local_users.cfg file, and install a admin account in it.

Tip:  You can either have the license ready to install with this startup, or install it later in the UI, in the adminstration section.

Workaround:   Copy the local_users.cfg file back to the installation.
