Problem Description

How do I find out what Blue Coat Web Filter (BCWF) category is assigned to a particular URL?
How can I found out on the ProxySG?
Is there a Blue Coat sponsored site that shows the categories?
Is there a way in which I can submit categories to be rated?
Does Blue Coat offer a site review web page where I can find what a page is rated?

There are two main ways in which you can find out what category belongs to a URL.  One is to go into the Management Console on the ProxySG and test.  The second method is to go to and check there.  Here are the details:

URL category from

1.)  Go to
2.)  Put in the URL in question and click on the "Check Rating" button.
3.)  You will see the results.  If you disagree with the results and the site is not locked (for example, Playboy is locked as pornography and will not be recategorized), then you can request that the site be recategorized.  If you want to be notified of the recategorization, you can leave your email address and you will be notified when a Blue Coat reviewer reviews the site and your comments.

URL category from the ProxySG Management Console:

1.)  Go to the Management Console (https://<ip.address.of.proxysg>:8082/  )
2.)  Go to the Configuration tab > Content Filtering > General.
3.)  There is a blank space where you can put in the URL and then click on the "Test" button.  The results will show up in a pop-up window.  And the results may vary if WebPulse, also known as dynamic real-time rating (DRTR), is enabled or disabled.
