PacketShaper 12000 with fiber-optic NIC
Various hardware switch vendors with fiber NIC modules

Problem description

In Packetwise 8.6.4 and earlier versions, the PacketShaper 12000 fiber-optic NIC has trouble negotiating speeds with certain devices.  This is a short list of switches which may exhibit the fiber negotiation issue:

Cisco 2960G
Cisco 3560G
Cisco 3750E
Juniper EX2200

For these and other devices, generally the default mode does not result in network connectivity.  However, if you change modes, you may be able to get these devices to work.

Fixed.  Please see the Resolution section below.

The issue is resolved in PacketShaper 8.6.5 which was released on March 30, 2011.  PacketShaper 8.6.5 can be downloaded from .  Please see the PacketShaper 8.6.5 release notes and search for bug 152755.
